Product Description
Light: Camellias prefer bright, indirect light. They can tolerate some direct sunlight, but too much can scorch their leaves. They do well in partially shaded areas.
Watering: Camellias like consistent moisture but dislike standing water. Water the plant regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist, but ensure the pot has good drainage if it's in a container. During the growing season (spring and summer), they need more water, but reduce watering in the fall and winter when they’re not actively growing.
Soil: Camellias thrive in acidic, well-draining soil. You can mix organic compost or mulch to help with acidity and improve soil structure.
Fertilizing: Use a fertilizer specifically designed for camellias or other acid-loving plants. Fertilize them in early spring when they begin to grow, and again in mid-summer. Avoid fertilizing in the fall, as this can encourage new growth that may not survive the winter.
Pruning: Prune your camellia after it finishes flowering. Cut back any dead or damaged branches and shape the plant if needed. Be cautious about heavy pruning, as camellias can be slow to recover.
Temperature: Camellias prefer cooler temperatures, typically between 50°F and 65°F (10°C to 18°C). Protect them from extreme cold or hot temperatures. They’re usually hardy in USDA zones 7–9.
Pests/Diseases: Watch for common pests like scale insects, aphids, and spider mites. Also, look out for fungal diseases like leaf spot. If you notice any issues, treat with appropriate organic or chemical solutions.
